M Yelvender Yadav, senior divisional commercial manager, said the lifts will be installed at an estimated cost of Rs 80 lakh of which the electrical department will spend around Rs 25 lakh and the civil engineering department will spend Rs 16 lakh. While one lift will be installed at platform number 8, the second one will be installed between platform numbers 6 and 7.
A senior railway official from the commercial wing of Waltair division said the entire station will be equipped with all basic facilities such as lifts and escalators very soon. The proposals to install escalators and more lifts were made earlier and sent to the railway board for its approval, the officer said. This apart, a person will be appointed in-charge of the lifts and escalators to prevent misuse and monitor technical snags.
